Client: TKS
Location: 41-51 Inverness Terrace, London W2 3J
Duration: 20 Weeks
Project Brief
Pembroke & Bull Contracts Ltd was appointed by TKS to undertake specialist external restoration and decoration works to La Suite Hotel, a boutique hotel situated on Inverness Terrace, overlooking Hyde Park. The project formed part of a comprehensive programme to enhance the external appearance of the building, requiring a sensitive and conservation-led approach appropriate to the historic character of the surrounding streetscape.
Historical Context
Inverness Terrace forms part of a historic Victorian streetscape bordering Hyde Park, characterised by ornate façades, decorative cornices, and traditional ironwork. Buildings along the terrace contribute significantly to the architectural identity of the area. The works to La Suite Hotel were carefully designed to reinstate traditional detailing and preserve the building’s period features while extending their service life.
Scope of Works
The scope of works included detailed masonry repairs, refurbishment of decorative cornices and dentil blocks, and restoration of ironmongery and railings. External decorative finishes were applied to enhance visual cohesion and protect the building fabric. All works were undertaken with meticulous attention to detail to ensure consistency with the original architectural design and materials.
Key Challenges
A key challenge was balancing modern performance requirements with the preservation of historic detailing. Works were carried out within a prominent and sensitive location adjacent to Hyde Park, requiring careful planning to manage access, protect the public realm, and maintain the hotel’s operation throughout the programme.
Overall Output
The project was completed within the 20-week programme and to a high conservation standard. The restored façades and decorative elements successfully recaptured the building’s historic character, enhancing its presence within Inverness Terrace and restoring the boutique hotel to its former grandeur
